The Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 Apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who want to begin a rewarding career in the health and care sector. This programme prepares you to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients in a variety of settings such as hospitals, clinics, and community care.

As an apprentice, you’ll be employed in a healthcare setting while receiving structured training at ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ. The course typically lasts 12 to 18 months and provides the essential skills and knowledge needed to support registered healthcare professionals and make a real difference in people’s lives.

You’ll develop practical skills in supporting individuals with personal care, mobility, nutrition, and daily living activities. You’ll also learn how to take physiological measurements, assist with medication under supervision, and recognise signs of pain or distress.

The course covers key areas such as safeguarding, infection prevention and control, communication, confidentiality, and person-centred care. You’ll also gain an understanding of relevant legislation, health promotion, and how to work effectively as part of a healthcare team

There are no formal qualifications needed to start the Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 Apprenticeship—just a genuine interest in caring for others and a commitment to working in the health and care sector. This programme is ideal for school leavers or individuals looking to retrain in a meaningful and people-focused profession.

However, some employers may set their own entry requirements, such as GCSEs in English and Maths. If you have not yet achieved a GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in these subjects, you will be required to complete Functional Skills Level 1 (and work towards Level 2) as part of your apprenticeship. Don’t worry—ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ will support you throughout your training.

You’ll be assessed throughout the apprenticeship through practical observations, written assignments, and a portfolio of evidence. Your college tutor and employer will help you track your progress and prepare for your final assessment.

At the end of the programme, you’ll complete an End Point Assessment (EPA), which includes:

A multiple-choice knowledge test
A professional discussion
A practical observation in your workplace

To begin the apprenticeship, you’ll need to secure employment with an organisation willing to support you as an apprentice. While it is your responsibility to find and apply for suitable roles, ÇàÇà²ÝÊÓƵ is here to help. We have a dedicated Job Shop located within the college, where you can meet with an Employer Engagement Advisor for tailored support and advice on how to apply for vacancies and prepare for interviews.

After completing this apprenticeship, you’ll be qualified to work as a Healthcare Support Worker, Nursing Assistant, or Support Worker in a range of NHS and private care settings. You may also choose to progress onto the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship or pursue further training in nursing, midwifery, or allied health professions.
